
Sh.Balram Jakhar (S/o Sh. Raja Ram Jakhar was born on Aug 4,
1923 to village Panjkosi The Abohar. He did his matric from
Muncipal Board High Scholl Abohar ansd B.A. (Hons. With
Sanskrit) from F.C.College Lahore in 1945.
He participated
in Swadeshi movement kaunched by Mahatma Gandhi and burnt
foreign clothes at V. Panjkosi. He took the courageous step of
treating Harijans as par with either communities by organizing
community launch, He ensured this entry to the village well for
getting water.
After serving as
Sarpanch till 1972, he was elected member of Vidhan Sabha Punjab
from Abohar served as Deputy Minister Of Agriculture in Giani
Jail Singh Ministry from 1973-77. Daring this tenure he stroed
the ambition projects of living Nalas link roads, total
electrification of villages. Despite Janta wave in 1977, he was
elected as Abohar M.L.A. and served as leader of the opposite in
assembly.
In 1980, he was
elected to Lok Sabha and served as speaker of Lower House. He
was re-elected to Lok Sabha from Sihar in Rajasthan and again
speaker of Lok Sabha. He was also elected chairman of
commonwealth Parliamentarian Association.
In 1984 he was
elected from Bikaner in Rajansthna and sieved as Agriculture
minister in P.V.Narsimha Rao cabinet. He introduced Drip
Irrigation system.
As
agriculturist, he adopted latest techniques and developed
agriculture, friuit farm at village Pajkosi and Maujgarh. He was
awarded Udhyan Pandit for his services to the field of fruit
forming.
